Many believe that happy people are the source of happy relationships, but what if happiness was gained through happy relationships instead? Happiness can’t always be obtained alone. Based on research, UCS and Harvard came to the conclusion “People’s happiness depends on the happiness of others with whom they are connected.” While you can achieve happiness many other ways, people with happy relationships with their immediate family are found to be 25% more happy (Flow:Becoming More Engaged). Teens who have a struggling relationship with their parents are more likely to suffer from depressive disorders. Many have already looked into relationship depression. “Adolescent depression is a disorder occurring within the context of interpersonal relationships. Adolescents with depression tend to experience various types of relational impairments, which often involve family members” (So Happy Together). If you find yourself in a bad relationship, bringing flow into your relationship may be your key to fixing it. There are many activities to bring flow into a relationship, such as meditation, sports, dance, and even playing video games together.
Family and romantic relationships aren’t the only ones that affect your well being. Why do you think schools and workplaces often have parties and day long events? These days are to ensure that the workplace, or the school environment, is altogether happy and okay with collaborating. Without stable relationships, work doesn’t get done and people just sit around scowling at each other. If you are not having a good relationship with a peer or friend, you will always see a very negative effect on your assignments and attitude towards tasks.
In my life, if I am having trouble with a friend, family member, or peer, I normally take a few hours to calm down and then come back to the situation when I know it can be fixed. I know a lot about the way relationships affect happiness because I’m a kid in highschool just like everyone reading this. I know that sometimes people are a pain in the butt and all, but if you don’t show them any respect or even attempt at being nice to them, how are you supposed to be happy? It takes a lot of effort to hate someone. Often I stop my friends when they are complaining to me about someone and ask them what their true reasons are for hating the person, many don’t have any real answers. Remember, when someone is mad, just take a break and come back when you are calm and ready to talk it out.
